Resiliance of the Toruism Industry in Portugal

 

Global tourism is doing well, as both in number of individuals who visited other countries and total revenue increase. But the rate of enlargement moderated in June after a sharper acceleration take place May. With foreign tourists symbolizing much of the recovery from pandemic lows, amid increased demand for leisure as travel restrictions ease.

 

Economic Activity Increased Slightly Over May in June 2024

 

According to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), tourist accommodations in June registered 3 million guests and 7.8 million overnight stays. This represents a year-over-year growth of 6.7% and 4.8%, respectively, but these figures were lower than those recorded in May, which saw growth rates of 9.4% in guest numbers and 7.5% in overnight stays.

Metrics shows promising for the industry

 

While June grew at a slower pace compared to last year, overall tourism continues its growth trend. Over the first six months of 2024, overnight stays increased by in total 1.6 million (or an overall growth rate of or +4.5%).
